在英语写作中，常常会用到各种各样的表达“看”的词。下面就这些词作一归纳，以帮助大家能更好地把握并正确使用它们。
1. catch / have sight of: 发现, 看出。 指被看到的东西进入眼帘，而不是有意识地去看。例如：
Don’t let me catch/have sight of you doing it again. 别让我再看到你干这种事了！
If you catch/have sight of John, ask him to call me. 如果你看到约瀚，让他给我打电话。
2. gaze: vi. (通常指因惊奇、羡慕、迷恋等而)久久地凝视, 注视。例如：
She gazed at me in disbelief when I told her the news. 我告诉她这消息时，她以怀疑的目光注视着我。
He just sat gazing through the window. 他只是坐着呆呆地望着窗外。
3.glance: vi. 扫视, 匆匆一看。指迅速而粗略地看,这样可以看到全部，但时间短暂。 例如：
glance at newspapers 浏览报纸
She glanced along the road to see if he was coming. 她沿路扫视着，看他是否要来了。
I glanced up to see who had come in. 我抬头瞥了一眼看是谁进来了。
4. glare: vi. 怒视，恶狠狠地盯视。强调怀有敌意或恐怖或威胁。例如：
He didn’t shout or swear, but just glared silently at me. 他不喊不叫，只是默默地怒视着我。
A trapped eagle was glaring at his captors. 一只落入圈套的鹰两眼瞪着捕捉它的人。
5. glimpse: n. 一瞥;看一眼。暗示几乎没有看到目击物，或只看到一部分。例如：
a glimpse at New York 纽约一瞥
I glimpsed her among the crowd. 我瞥见她在人群当中。
6. look: vi. 看, 瞧。指注意或有意识地看,强调动作的过程。例如：
He looked but saw nothing. 他看了，但什么也没看见。
Look! There he is! 瞧！他在那里！
7. notice: vi. 注意到; 看到。含有偶然看到的意思，其内涵是看到目的物后要作出反应。例如：
No one noticed the boy as he left. 那个男孩 离开时谁也没有察觉。
Did you notice him leave the house? 你看到他离开房间了吗？
8. peek: vi. 偷看; 窥视。指从缝隙或隐蔽处看。例如：
You must not peek while you are counting in such games as hide-and-seek.像捉迷藏一类游戏中，你数数时绝对不能偷看。
No peeking! 禁止窥视！
9. peep: vi.窥视; 偷看。指匆匆地且诡秘地或小心地看。例如：
peep at a secret document 偷看秘密文件
The rabbit peeped out from under the leaf. 那只野兔从叶子下向外窥视。
10. peer: vi. 凝视; 盯着看。指眯着眼睛、伸着脖子向前看，常指好奇或探求性的心情或可能是很难看清。例如：
She peered at the tag to read the price. 她细看标签辨认价格。
The new postman peered through the mist, trying to find the right house. 新来的邮递员在雾中仔细张望,设法寻找到他要找的那一家。
11. see: vi. 有看或看到的意思，强调动作的结果，是个通用词，使用范围最广。例如:
I haven’t seen you for ages. 很久没有看到你了。
It’s so dark, I can’t see anything. 太黑了,我什么也看不见。
12. stare: vi. (指因钦佩、惊讶、好奇、愤怒或害怕等而)盯着看; 瞪眼看。例如：
It’s rude to stare at people. 盯着人看是不礼貌的。
They all stared in amazement. 他们都惊讶地瞪大了眼睛。
She stared him into silence. 她瞪了他一眼, 他就不说话了。
13. watch: vi. 观看, 注视。指用眼睛跟踪某物，以观察到每一个动作、变化等，强调连续性。例如：
Watch what I do and how I do it. 看我的动作，看我是怎样做的。
Have you watched the football game? 那场足球赛你看没？
14. view:vi. (仔细)查看。通常暗示以一种特殊的方式或带有特定的目的去观察。例如：
The medical examiner viewed the victim’s body. 法医检验了受害者的尸体。
He view a battle through telescope from the top of a hill.他从山顶上用望远镜观察战斗情况。
