Titanic was 883 feet long, 92 feet wide .  She was 104 feet tall from the bottom to the top.  She stood taller above the water than most buildings of that time. She was the largest and finest ship at that time. On April 10, 1912, she set off from England to America on her first trip. On Titanic there were over 2,200 people.

The weather was cold, but the trip was pleasant. The people on Titanic all enjoyed themselves very much. They even didn’t feel the movement of the sea at all. At that time Titanic was not the fastest ship, but certainly one of the top five. The next day, it was even much colder. people could see icebergs here and there.

During the trip, Titanic got 6 ice warnings, but they did nothing. On April 14’s night, suddenly the man on watch shouted, “Look out! Iceberg in front!”  It was too late. The ship hit the iceberg and came to a stop. There was a very big hole in the ship and water began to come inside. Slowly the ship started to sink.

There were 20 lifeboats on Titanic. But only 18 of them were put onto the sea. And most of them were half-filled because the ship’s officers were worried about three things: First, they didn’t want to make the passengers frightened. Second, they wanted to put down all the lifeboats before the ship sank. Finally, they were worried that the boats couldn’t hold too many people when they were in the air.
On Sept. 1, 1985, the wreck of the Titanic was found lying in two pieces on the ocean floor.
